We've Got Rats! River Rats that is... New Bern's Very Own Baseball Team!
On June 4, 2005, New Bern became a part of the Coastal Plain League with our very own baseball team. The Coastal Plain League is one of the nation's top summer showcases for outstanding collegiate baseball players. The league is sanctioned by the NCAA and Major League Baseball and features the stars of the ACC and SEC, as well as members of the nation's top programs. The Coastal Plain League has gronw over the past seven years from six cities in Eastern North Carolina to 14 teams in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

Minor League Team - Kinston Indians
Just a few miles away lies Eastern Carolina's own minor league baseball team. Known as the "Boys of Summer", the Kingston Indians are a Class A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. Kinston has been home to the franchise since 1978, and boasts the second oldest ballpark in the Carolina League, Grainger Stadium. The stadium has seen many renovations over the years, most recently in 2002, and has a seating capacity of 4,100.
